The CBE repository contained a lot of Genode-specific code despite the fact
that the CBE core logic is not bound to Genode in any way. Therefore the
Genode-specific CBE code is moved to the 'gems' repository to form part of
Genode mainline. The remaining CBE code becomes a port in Genode instead of
being invoked as sub-repository.
The commit combines the following work steps:
* add all files removed from CBE repository
* add CBE port files
* make all CBE libs and targets build again
* make all CBE run scripts succeed again
* make all CBE recipes build again
* make CBE autopilot succeed again

Right now the same code dealing with nic setup on qemu is duplicated
in many different run scripts. It makes it unnecesarily complex to
change the existing config or add support for new nic types. Lets move
all this common code to qemu.inc.

By default, Vim renames a written file to a backup file suffixed with
"~" before writing the current buffer to a new file. Consequently, there
exists an intermediate state when no file exists. Should a client watch
such a file to obtain dynamic configuration info, it observes the empty
state.
Some components have builtin heuristics for such a situation. In
particular, the window layouter falls back to a predefined default
'rules' if no rules are provided as a file. So when interactively
editing window-layouter rules using Vim, it can happen that the manually
maintained rules get overwritten by the default rules.
By setting 'set nowritebackup', we can sidestep this issue by preventing
Vim from producing the bad intermediate state.
Introduce the managing_system privilege for components like the
platform_driver to allow it to call system management functionality
that is reserved by kernel or special firmware, e.g., ARM Trusted Firmware.
The former RAM resource configuration attribute `constrain_phys`,
which enabled to constrain the region of physical RAM to be used,
gets replaced by the new, broader managing_system configuration
attribute of a `start` node. It gets enforced by the sandbox library.

The sculpt manager used to defer the initialization of the GUI until
nitpicker's first display report became ready. This way, Sculpt was able
to run headlessly even if the framebuffer driver failed to start up.
Thanks to #3827, nitpicker no longer depends on a working framebuffer
driver. So the sculpt manager is safe to rely on nitpicker in any case,
simplifying the code.

This patch prevents nitpicker from requesting a framebuffer and input
session by default because the regular use of nitpicker relies on the
capture-session and event-session interfaces by now.
For supporting the nested use of nitpicker via the gui_fb component, it
is still possible to enable the traditional behavior by explicitely
setting the 'request_input' and 'request_framebuffer' config attributes
to "yes".
Issue #3812
This commit applies the transition from the "Input" session to the "Event"
session to the event-filtering mechansim. The functionality of the
input_filter is now provided by the event_filter. The event filter
requests only one "Event" session as destination for the filter result,
which is usually routed to the nitpicker GUI server. It provides an
"Event" service to which any number of event sources can connect.
The configuration of the filter chain remains almost the same. Only the
declaration of the <input> nodes is no longer needed. Instead, the
configuration must specify <policy> nodes, which define the mapping of
"Event" clients (event sources) to the inputs used in the filter chain.
The patch adjusts all uses of the nitpicker GUI server accordingly such
that the event filter reports events to nitpicker's event service
instead of having nitpicker request an "Input" session. This dissolves
the dependency of nitpicker from input drivers.
Issue #3827
This patch replaces the use of the "Framebuffer" session interface by
the new "Capture" session interface in all framebuffer drivers. Thanks
to this change, those drivers have become mere clients of the nitpicker
GUI server now, and are no longer critical for the liveliness of the GUI
server.
The patch touches the following areas:
- The actual driver components. The new versions of all drivers have
been tested on the respective hardware. Generally, the drivers
have become simpler.
- The drivers_interactive packages for various boards. The drivers
subsystem no longer provides a "Framebuffer" service but needs a
valid route to the "Capture" service provided by nitpicker.
- The driver manager of Sculpt OS.
- This patch changes the role of the test-framebuffer component from a
framebuffer client to a capture server so that drivers (capture clients)
can be directly connected to the test component without the nitpicker
server.
- Framebuffer driver no longer support the unbuffered mode.
- The fb_bench.run script is no longer very meaningful because it
interplays solely with nitpicker, not with the driver directly.
- All run scripts for graphical scenarios and the related depot
archives got adapted to the change.

Until now, Genode's framebuffer session interface was based on the
RGB565 pixel format. This patch changes the pixel format to 32-bit
XRGB where the X part is ignored. It adapts all graphical applications
and device drivers accordingly.
The patch also adjusts the users of the drivers_interactive packages,
assigning 64 MiB RAM and 1500 caps to the drivers subsystem, which is
sufficient for covering high resolutions at 32 bits per pixel and to
accommodate multi-component USB HID input stacks.

This commit fixes the 'Out_of_caps' handling. The previous version
mistakenly upgraded the RAM instead the caps as response. The problem
could be triggered by the 'decorator_stress.run' script.
If a "cat" tool as simple as the removed one is needed, it should be
implemented with Goa, only depend on libc/posix (*not* base), and be
named "simple_cat". Up to today, the misleading naming of the removed
tool, tricked me into believing "test-pipe" tests POSIX pipes, which it
did not!
The 'WHITESPACE' case of the _calc_len method wrongly accessed the
character before checking upper bound of the token. The problem is fixed
by switching the order of both conditions.

This patch removes old 'Allocator_guard' utility and replaces its use
with the modern 'Constrained_ram_allocator'.
The adjustment of core in this respect has the side effect of a more
accurate capability accounting in core's CPU, TRACE, and RM services.
In particular, the dataspace capabilities needed for core-internal
allocations via the 'Sliced_heap' are accounted to the client now.
The same goes for nitpicker and nic_dump as other former users of the
allocator guard. Hence, the patch also touches code at the client and
server sides related to these services.
The only remaining user of the 'Allocator_guard' is the Intel GPU
driver. As the adaptation of this component would be too invasive
without testing, this patch leaves this component unchanged by keeping a
copy of the 'allocator_guard.h' locally at the component.

This patch increases the default limit of the maximum number of open
file descriptors to the hard limit of the system. This is needed for
complex scenarios, which require more FDs than the default of 1024
at core.

This patch replaces the former Noux instance by a sub init that hosts
the combination of VFS + fs_rom + bash. If bash exits, the whole sub
init exits, which implicitly tears down the terminal session used by the
sub init. The latter is expected by the test sequence.

This patch increases the Sculpt version to avoid the risk of binary
compatibility clashes with index files published for the just-released
Sculpt 20.02 version.
The new text_area component is able to view and edit files.
Internally, it employs a menu_view for the graphics output.
Only basic notepad-like text-editing functions are supported.
At the current time, it is solely meant as a companion of the Sculpt
manager.

This test covers the situation where depot_query evaluates depot content
that is incompletely extracted. In particular, if the 'archives' file
already exists but has a size of zero, depot_query would produce a
page fault. This situation can be manually provoked by deliberately
creating a zero-sized archives file for any otherwise correct pkg.
This patch also fixes the success indicator of the test. It wrongly
matched an early line of the log output.

* The log history of a test is stored as a whole for the lifetime of the test.
* Matching of the log history against log patterns is done correctly now
(previously, a pattern like "AAB" on an input like "AAAB" wouldn't have

Nowadays, we use standard command-line tools like vim to edit init
configurations dynamically, which alleviates the need for a custom CLI.
The CLI-monitor component was too limited for use cases like Sculpt
anyway.
The patch also removes the ancient (and untested for long time)
terminal_mux.run script, which used to be the only remaining user of the
CLI monitor.

This adds complete character-generator configurations for English (US),
German (Germany and Switzerland), and French (France and Switzerland).
The configs are manually amended and stripped-down versions of
xkb2ifcfg generated configs.

This commit implements the ssh exec channel request. It also handles
some shortcommings on the interactive channel like exit and concurrent
session establishments.
Pipes into the channel do not work yet. E.g.:

The issue described with FIXME in Ssh::Server::incoming_connection()
could not be reproduced and might have been fixed with the improved

There are still nightly tests like test-tcp_bulk_lxip on sel4 x86_64 qemu
that manage to hit the test timeout of the run script although the test was
successful. So, raise the extra time added by the run script to 30 seconds.

Some platforms (sel4 imx6/imx7) cannot manage to execute all tests in a single
boot. Thus, we re-boot them periodically after a given maximum number of tests
to avoid that arbitrary tests always fail due to the long uptime and not due to
the tests themselves.
If the maximum number of tests is set to 0, no limit is applied.

bright/bold).

It might happen, in CPU intensive tests (like TCP bulk lxip), or when
printing debugging output after a failed test (as done currently on
staging), that the run script on the host gives up and reboots the
platform too early. Thus, we raise the buffer time. A reboot should
be necessary only in rare cases anyway.

The 'aes_cbc_4k' library is simple wrapper around libsparkcrypto to
serve as a backend for storage encryption. It operates on data chunks of
4 KiB and uses AES-CBC while incorporating the block number and the
private key as salt values.
This is a follow-up commit to "Update <provides> info in pkg runtimes",
which adapts the users of the wm pkg to the changed label of the "focus"
nitpicker session.
The fs_tool component performs file operations according to its
configuration. This initial version implements only the operation
<remove-file> as needed for Sculpt CE.

When buiding the sculpt image, the sculpt.run script used to integrate
the current version of the index of the 'depot_user' into the boot
image. At runtime, when the Sculpt partition is selected for "use" this
index - along with the 'pubkey' and 'download' files of the known
depot users - is written to the Sculpt partition.
This has the undesirable effect that a later version of the index
(published some time after the sculpt image was created) would always be
overwritten by the outdated index shipped with the boot image.
The built-in default index was actually a stop-gap solution needed
during the development of Sculpt CE, introduced when the downloading of
index files was not yet supported. Now, with the working download
mechanism, it is no longer needed. Hence, this patch removes the default
index from the sculpt image.
This commit removes most of the default launchers, which are now
superseded by the interactive component addition feature of the '+'
menu.
We keep the chroot components because we cannot easily create chroot
instances interactively yet.
The usb_devices_rom is still needed because its configuration is meant
to be edited at runtime.
It also adds a 'themed_wm' launcher to make the initial sculpt
experience easier. For knowledgeable users, the index contains all
ingredients needed to build a multi-component window manager manually.
This commit turns the '+' menu into a tool for the following tasks:
- Selecting and downloading of depot index files
- Browsing of the hierarchical depot index files
- Installation of packages found in the index files
- Interactive routing configuration of a selected package
- Deployment of configured component
With this commit, the 'installation' input of the depot-download
subsystem accepts <index> nodes in addition to <archive> nodes. Each
index node refers to one index file specified via the 'path' attribute.
This commit also improves the tracking of failure states. Once an
installation job failed (due to a download of verification error),
it won't get re-scheduled. In the past, such failure states were not kept
across subsequent import iterations, which could result in infinite
re-attempts when an installation contained archives from multiple users.
The the progress of the download process is now reflected by the
"progress" attribute on the download manager's state report, which
allows the final report to contain the list of installed/failed archives
along with the overall progress/completed state. The detection of the
latter is important for the sculpt manager for reattempting the
deployment of the completed packages.
The patch enhances the depot_download.run script to stress the new
abilities. In particular, the scenario downloads a mix of index files
(one present, one missing) and archives, from two different depot users
(genodelabs and nfeske).

The input for the pkg index is located at gems/run/sculpt/index.
The sculpt.run script uses this input for generating the depot index
file at depot/<user>/index/<version>.
The tool/depot/publish tool support arguments of the form
<user>/index/<version> where <version> corresponds to the Sculpt
version.

The zynq nic_drv also depends on hw, we therefore adapted the folder
structure for clarity. Also renamed the binary to 'zynq_nic_drv' to
prevent conflicts and to allow removing the cadence_gem spec.

This patch simplifies the propagation of pointer shapes from
window-manager clients to the pointer. The "shape" report is routed to
the wm server, which, in turn, reports it to the pointer. This way, the
pointer can easily correlate the label of the application's "shape"
report with the label of the application's Nitpicker session. The
formerly used manual rewriting of the "shape" label is not needed
anymore.
Since the wm server provides a "Report" service now, its <provides>
declaration must cover "Report" in addition to "Nitpicker" to avoid
runtime error messages. Vice versa, the wm is now expected to request
"shape" reports, which should be routed to the pointer (using the
'label_last' routing attribute).

Refactor the graphical terminal server to internally represent
characters as 16-bit codepoints and handle the duplex terminal stream as
UTF-8.
- Make the Codepoint class printable to the Output interface
- Decode data received at the Terminal session from UTF-8 to a 16-bit

- Send Unicode through terminal session in a burst of UTF-8 bytes

The minimal-footprint Ada runtime for implementing library-like
functionality in SPARK is now called "spark" runtime.
The full Ada runtime for entire components written in Ada and using the
libc as glue to the underlying system will move to the world repository
as "ada" runtime.

The 'run_genode_until' procedure only called 'run_power_on' to reset
the target machine. That works will with the softreset module, which
is used by all x86-based test system but falls short regarding ARM
boards. The way those boards are connected requires turning the power
off and on for a complete cycle.
In less interactive mode, the run script doesn't give up on missing test
archives but instead removes the corresponding tests and marks them "missing".
This mode avoids total failure of a platform in automated test infrastructures
when only a few archives are missing.

After a certain number of tests, presumably some resource in core is exceeded
and loading the successive test fails. This quickfix looks out for the
characteristic Core error and then reboots to avoid that all successive tests
are marked as failed.
Since the timer and timeout handling is part of the base library (the
dynamic linker), it belongs to the base repository.
Besides moving the timer and its related infrastructure (alarm, timeout
libs, tests) to the base repository, this patch also moves the timer
from the 'drivers' subdirectory directly to 'src' and disamibuates the
timer's build locations for the various kernels. Otherwise the different
timer implementations could interfere with each other when using one
build directory with multiple kernels.
Note that this patch changes the include paths for the former os/timer,
os/alarm.h, os/duration.h, and os/timed_semaphore.h to base/.
Issue #3101
This patch improves the appearance of the leitzentrale by eliminating
the (hardly visible) decorations from the GUI and graph views, and by
animating the motion of the graph position. The latter is meant to
remove the stuttering effect when the graph's size changes (and
re-centered).
Adds an config attribute to the Depot Autopilot component:
