It is unused by default and upstream is trying to remove it as it has negative effects when the driver is under load. Upstream explanation: netpoll: avoid capture effects for NAPI drivers As diagnosed by Song Liu, ndo_poll_controller() can be very dangerous on loaded hosts, since the cpu calling ndo_poll_controller() might steal all NAPI contexts (for all RX/TX queues of the NIC). This capture, showing one ksoftirqd eating all cycles can last for unlimited amount of time, since one cpu is generally not able to drain all the queues under load. It seems that all networking drivers that do use NAPI for their TX completions, should not provide a ndo_poll_controller() : Most NAPI drivers have netpoll support already handled in core networking stack, since netpoll_poll_dev( uses poll_napi(dev) to iterate through registered NAPI contexts for a device. This is the buildsystem for the OpenWrt Linux distribution.
To build your own firmware you need a Linux, BSD or MacOSX system (case
sensitive filesystem required). Cygwin is unsupported because of the lack
of a case sensitive file system.
You need gcc, binutils, bzip2, flex, python, perl, make, find, grep, diff,
unzip, gawk, getopt, subversion, libz-dev and libc headers installed.
1. Run "./scripts/feeds update -a" to obtain all the latest package definitions
defined in feeds.conf / feeds.conf.default
2. Run "./scripts/feeds install -a" to install symlinks for all obtained
packages into package/feeds/
3. Run "make menuconfig" to select your preferred configuration for the
toolchain, target system & firmware packages.
4. Run "make" to build your firmware. This will download all sources, build
the cross-compile toolchain and then cross-compile the Linux kernel & all
chosen applications for your target system.
