a9eb5cce7e Revert "binutils: update to 2.39"
This reverts commit cc24c4ed5e.

binutils does not compile with glibc:
Package binutils is missing dependencies for the following libraries:
libgprofng.so.0
libmsgpackc.so.2
libstdc++.so.6

libbpf does not compile against binutils 2.39 any more, see:

cc24c4ed5e binutils: update to 2.39
Changes:

* The ELF linker will now generate a warning message if the stack is made
  executable. Similarly it will warn if the output binary contains a
  segment with all three of the read, write and execute permission
  bits set. These warnings are intended to help developers identify
  programs which might be vulnerable to attack via these executable
  memory regions.
  The warnings are enabled by default but can be disabled via a command
  line option. It is also possible to build a linker with the warnings
  disabled, should that be necessary.
* The ELF linker now supports a --package-metadata option that allows
  embedding a JSON payload in accordance to the Package Metadata
  specification.
* In linker scripts it is now possible to use TYPE=<type> in an output
  section description to set the section type value.
* The objdump program now supports coloured/colored syntax
  highlighting of its disassembler output for some architectures.
  (Currently: AVR, RiscV, s390, x86, x86_64).
* The nm program now supports a --no-weak/-W option to make it ignore
  weak symbols.
* The readelf and objdump programs now support a -wE option to prevent
  them from attempting to access debuginfod servers when following
  links.
* The objcopy program's --weaken, --weaken-symbol, and
  --weaken-symbols options now works with unique symbols as well.

820093d5a6 binutils: update to 2.38
Changelog:

 Assembler:
    General:
      * Add support for the LoongArch architecture.

      * Add an option to control how multibyte characters are handled in
        the assembler. Using the option warnings can be generated when
        such characters are encountered in symbol names, or anywhere in
        the input source file(s).

    AArch64 and ARM:
      * Add support for more system registers.
      * Add support for Scalable Matrix Extension.
      * Add support for Cortex-R52+, Cortex-A510, Cortex-A710,
        Cortex-X2, Cortex-A710 cores.
      * Add support for 'v8.7-a', 'v8.8-a', 'v9-a', 'v9.1-a',
        'armv9.2-a' and 'armv9.3-a' architecture extensions.

    X86:
      * Add a command-line option to encode aligned vector move as
        unaligned vector move.
      * Add support for Intel AVX512_FP16 instructions.
      * The outputs of .ds.x directive and .tfloat directive with hex
        input have been reduced from 12 bytes to 10 bytes to match the
        output of .tfloat directive.

Linker:
    * Add support for the LoongArch architecture.

    * Add -z pack-relative-relocs/-z no pack-relative-relocs to x86 ELF
     linker to pack relative relocations in the DT_RELR section.

    * Add -z indirect-extern-access/-z noindirect-extern-access to x86
      ELF linker to control canonical function pointers and copy
      relocation.

Other Binary Tools:

    * elfedit: Add --output-abiversion option to update ABIVERSION.

    * Tools which display symbols or strings (readelf, strings, nm,
      objdump) have a new command line option which controls how unicode
      characters are handled. By default they are treated as normal for
      the tool. Using --unicode=locale will display them according to
      the current locale. Using --unicode=hex will display them as hex
      byte values, whilst --unicode=escape will display them as escape
      sequences. In addition using --unicode=highlight will display
      them as unicode escape sequences highlighted in red (if supported
      by the output device).

    * readelf -r dumps RELR relative relocations now.

    * Support for efi-app-aarch64, efi-rtdrv-aarch64 and
      efi-bsdrv-aarch64 has been added to objcopy in order to enable
      UEFI development using binutils.

    * ar: Add --thin for creating thin archives. -T is a deprecated
      alias without diagnostics. In many ar implementations -T has a
      different meaning, as specified by X/Open System Interface.

9a59f62f61 binutils: fix libbfd missing DSO dependency if NLS enabled
The libbfd package definition uses $(ICONV_DEPENDS) and $(INTL_DEPENDS)
but links against neither, leading to libbfd detection failures in other
packages (e.g. bpftools) and on-target relocation problems with libintl.so:

  root@OpenWrt:/# ldd /usr/lib/libbfd.so
        ldd (0x77db6000)
        libc.so => ldd (0x77db6000)
        libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0x77c6d000)
  Error relocating /usr/lib/libbfd.so: libintl_dgettext: symbol not found

Add NLS-conditional linking of "libintl" to fix this. Also remove libbfd
package dependency $(ICONV_DEPENDS) which is not used during building or
linking.

Tested with QEMU on malta/be32, after building all packages from binutils,
bpftools and iproute2, using different libc options musl and glibc.

d4161798dd perf: fix building with musl when NLS is enabled
This package fails with a strange error when building with musl when NLS
is enabled. The configuration thinks that libelf is not present, even
though DEPENDS contains +libelf, because when NLS is enabled, libelf.so
depends on libintl, and the correct LDFLAGS are missing for
libintl-full. This then causes the configuration script to check for
glibc, but this fails because we are using musl.

2b141ad392 strace: Update to version 5.8
Deactivate multiple personalities support, because this causes compile
problems at least on the x86/64 target. As OpenWrt compiles all
binaries itself all binaries will use the native personality which is
also used by strace. This change will make it impossible to debug i386
binaries on x86_64 OpenWrt targets for example.

bc89690f6e gdb: The signal definitions of musl and gdb collide
This fixes compilation of gdb on arm64.

The kernel defines "struct sigcontext" in asm/sigcontext.h and musl libc
defines it in signal.h, which collides.
Kernel 4.14 misses the definitions of struct user_sve_header so we still
have to use the aarch64-sve-linux-sigcontext.h header file which also
provides that and make sure aarch64-sve-linux-sigcontext.h does not
provide the same headers as the kernel or musl.

Seems others are running into this as well.
The problem seems to be that some code may be built
as C++ and not C, which may explain the linker error.

On this thread reply:
   https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb/2016-11/msg00045.html
it mentions that the simulator should not call GDB's
"error" function directly, but rather use the "host_callback"
struct.

I have no idea about the use of the GDB simulator within
the OpenWrt/LEDE community.

So, I took the easier route, which is to disable the simulator.
(Also suggested here: https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb/2016-11/msg00047.html )

If needed, I can make an effort to fix the simulator for PPC.

f50079985c perf: Depend on KERNEL_PERF_EVENTS
The kernel needs to have PERF_EVENTS built otherwise we will run into
the following:

root@(none):/# perf top
perf_event_open(..., PERF_FLAG_FD_CLOEXEC) failed with unexpected error
89 (Function not implemented)
perf_event_open(..., 0) failed unexpectedly with error 89 (Function not
implemented)
Error:
The sys_perf_event_open() syscall returned with 89 (Function not
implemented) for event (cycles).
/bin/dmesg may provide additional information.
No CONFIG_PERF_EVENTS=y kernel support configured?

Make sure this functional dependency is captured.

5dc76a4258 perf: Disable perf for ARC770 only, enable for ARC HS38
Toolchain built for ARCv1 (read for ARC700 cores) by default has
disabled atomic ops (-mno-atomic). When we build Linux kernel for ARC770
which has LL/SC instructions and thus may handle normally atomic ops we
explicitly add "-matomic" in CFLAGS. But since user-space perf utility has
no way to extract CPU config options from Kconfig/defconfig it uses
compiler default settings.

In case of ARCv2 (read ARC HS38) atomics are enabled by default and so
perf builds perfectly fine thus reenabling perf for ARC HS38 (actually
for non-ARC700 targets).

34e8393019 toolchain/arc: update to the most recent release arc-2016.09
arc-2016.09 is the most recent toolchain for ARC cores and
it is based on top of upstream Binutils 2.27 and GCC 6.2.1.

With updated major version of GCC we copied all GCC 6.x patches
for ARC as well as Bintils 2.27 patches.

Note that toochain sports ARCv4 ABI and so must be used
with 4.8+ Linux kernels. Even though it will build v4.4 kernel
perfectly fine on attempt to run user-space apps they won't
work with older kernel. That said previuosly sent RFC patches with
Linux kernel update are required:
